Local Stories is Tuesday, September 16!

image

It’s been a long, strange couple of months here at Local Stories.  We’ve got some good news and some bad news for you.  First, the bad news: summer is almost over and it’ll only be a matter of time before we’re poking our eyes out with icicles.  Now the good news: the third season of Local Stories is less than two weeks away!

To celebrate our second birthday (!) and the start of a new season, our September show features stories about ANNIVERSARIES.  Come down to 2A in Alphabet City on Tuesday, September 16 at 8 PM for tales of bizarre birthdays, weird weddings, and celebrations of all kinds from the revelatory:

LESLIE GOSHKO (Sideshow Goshko)

NISSE GREENBERG (Bad Feelings)

TARA CLANCY (The Moth)

We’ll also have trivia, boozy prizes and plenty of jokes about crashing weddings.  And, as usual, the show is totally FREE.  RSVP HERE

To help you get into the celebratory mood, here’s a little rehearsal dinner gem from The Wedding Crashers.  It’s not so bad to be a venture capitalist after all…

See you in a little over a week!

In honor of a month of revolts, upheavals and movements of all kinds, this month’s show features stories about REVOLUTIONS.  We’ll have tales of betrayals, about faces, and all types of revolt from the cool headed:

LUCAS CONNOLLY (Cave Comedy)

JIM O’GRADY (WNYC)

DIANA SPECHLER (The Moth)

SUSAN KENT (Tell It)

We’ll also have revolutionary trivia, prizes, and plenty of jokes about upheavals.  RSVP HERE.

Local Stories is a week away!

We may not be sitting on the hood of a car relishing in our last day of school, but the gross, muggy weather means that summer is fast approaching.  And you know what else is fast approaching?  The June edition of Local Stories!

To kickoff the season of fireworks and fireflies, come down to 2A in Alphabet City next Tuesday, June 17 for a show dedicated to all things SUMMER.  This month, we’ve got stories about forbidden flings, road trips gone awry, and other sticky situationsfrom the hilarious and smokin’ hot:

TIM MANLEY (The Moth)

JANET MANLEY (CNN, The Hairpin)

ADAM WADE (Moth Radio Hour)

OPHIRA EISENBERG (NPR’s “Ask Me Another”)

We’ll also have trivia, prizes and jokes about early ‘90’s Richard Linklater movies.  And, as usual, the show is totally FREE.  RSVP HERE.

In the meantime, enjoy this gem from the summer classic “Wet Hot American Summer”.  Just keep your eyes on the road when singing Kenny Loggins…

See you in next Tuesday!

Local Stories is a little over a week away!

The last few months have been a battle here at Local Stories headquarters.  We’ve fought a winter that won’t die, a landlord who’s trying to sell our building, and construction noise that has us aggravated enough to take swings at inanimate objects.  But there’s good news on the horizon: the April edition of Local Stories is only a week away!

Come on down to the Three of Cups next Tuesday, April 8 at 8 PM for stories about being stuck “IN THE MIDDLE”. We’ll have tales of Middle America, the Middle East, mid-air mishaps and other tough jams from the completely centered:

LESLIE GOSHKO (Sideshow Goshko)

JEFF SIMMERMON (The Moth)

RICH GURALNIK (UCB)

JASON SAENZ (College Humor, MTV)

We’ll also have trivia, prizes and plenty of jokes about middle child syndromeTickets are $10 ($8 in advance), but each ticket includes a drink.  So there’s that, too.

RSVP HERE and get your tickets HERE.

See you in a week!

Local Stories is Tuesday, March 11!

Here at Local Stories headquarters, this winter has been a slog.  Lately, we’ve been feeling a bit like the Incredible Hulk: withdrawn, anxious, and prepared to rip siding off of the nearest building with only a slight provocation.  Relief is only a day away, however: Local Stories is tomorrow night at 8:30 PM!

Come on down to the Three of Cups in the East Village TOMORROWMARCH 11, and celebrate the first month of spring (we hope) with stories about everything GREEN.  We’ll have tales of jealousy, novelty, the environment and other types of greenery from the fully blossomed:

Emmy Blotnick (Best Week Ever)

Matthew Mercier (The Moth)

Cammi Climaco (Ask Me Stories)

Michael Sutton (Your Fifteen Minutes are UP)

We’ll also have triviaprizes, and jokes about the challenges of living as a 20 foot tall green blob.  RSVP HERE.

See you tomorrow!

Here at Local Stories headquarters, we have mixed feelings about Valentine’s Day.  Much as we love romance, there are some major downsides to public displays of affection: clogged restaurants, oversized stuffed animals taking up valuable subway seats, and enough guilty suits to make Anthony Weiner seem like a model husband.  Not to worry, though: the Februaryedition of Local Stories is less than two weeks away!

Come on down to the Three of Cups in the East Village on Tuesday, February 11 at 8:30 PM for stories about BAD ROMANCE.  Come hear tales of heartbreak, heartache and romantic antics from the always lovable:

Andrew Collin (UCB)

Natalie Wall (Awkward Sex, and the City)

Mehdi Barakchian (The PIT)

Giulia Rozzi (MTV)

Jefferson (BARE)

We’ll also have trivia, prizes and plenty of jokes about romance gone wrong.  RSVP HERE.

In the meantime here’s a highlight reel from Gigli, arguably the worst romantic comedy ever made.  Now you just have to figure out who’s the cow and who’s the bull in your relationship…

See you next Tuesday!

Winter is the worst.  Here at Local Stories headquarters, we’ll be the first to admit that it’s tough to get out of bed when it’s cold and gray (or when you wake up on a snowy beach next to Kate Winslet).  But at least today you have a good reason to leave the house: Local Stories is tonight at 8:30 PM!

Come down to the Three of Cups tonight (January 14) for stories about being OUT IN THE COLD from the always hot:

John Asante (Ask Me Another)

Jamie LeeLo (Brunch Night)

Victoria Scroggins (Tell It)

Michele Carlo (The Moth)

We’ll also have trivia, prizes and plenty of booze to warm up your body and ply your mind.  RSVP HERE.

In the meantime, enjoy this early 90’s gem about bobsledding in Jamaica.  It pretty much sums up my feelings about ice…

See you tonight!
